Pediatric Dentistry

Taking care of the oral health of your child is a challenge in itself. Children are often drawn towards sugary and sticky foods such as candies, chocolate, pastries, gummy bears, etc. This can cause a negative impact on their oral health as the sugary content deposited on the teeth promotes the growth of bacteria on them. Cavities and gum diseases may follow if relevant treatment is not given. This is where pediatric dentistry becomes important.

Pedodontics, otherwise commonly known as pediatric dentistry, is a special branch of dentistry that involves the diagnosis and treatment of oral diseases in children. It also includes educating children and parents about proper oral hygiene, offering comprehensive solutions to oral infections, preventive dentistry, monitoring the growth of milk and permanent teeth, and maintaining a well-updated oral record of the child.

Pediatric treatment services

  • Filling cavities: Cavities are seen in individuals of all age groups. However, they are predominant in children as they tend to consume a lot of sugary food. This can erode the enamel and cause tiny holes in it, leading to cavities. If left untreated, they can advance to the root of the teeth and even cause infections to the gums. Hence, cavities must be treated as soon as possible and filled with a suitable filling material. We use tooth colored filling material that is aesthetically pleasing and works efficiently at sealing the cavity.
  • Fluoride treatment: Fluoride is an important mineral present in the teeth that keep them strong and resistant to cavities. We get the supply of fluoride from drinking water and the toothpaste we use to brush teeth. When the adequate amount of fluoride is not supplied to the teeth, they become weak and may easily develop cavities. A fluoride treatment restores the amount of fluoride in the teeth and increases its resistance to cavities.
  • Orthodontic solutions: Teeth may tend to develop out of position due to causes such as heredity, thumb sucking, misaligned jawbone, etc. Dentists recommend that it is best to treat malocclusion at a young age as the teeth would easily move to the desired position and the jawbone would develop healthily.
  • Sealants: Dental sealants are used to cover the occlusal grooves that are present on the molars and premolars. They can house a lot of microbes and food debris, giving rise to cavities. Applying sealants significantly reduce the chances of tooth decay.
Along with these treatment procedures, the dentist carries out routine dental consultations and maintains a well-kept record of your child’s oral health. This allows us to be aware of any new developments and take the precautionary measures at the earliest.
