At Prescott Family Dentistry, we offer multiple ways to repair your smile in the most natural-looking ways. One of these solutions comes in the form of tooth-colored fillings.
Dental fillings are used to restore a damaged tooth to its normal function and shape. Unlike traditional metallic fillings, tooth-colored fillings are made to match the natural color of your teeth. Before the procedure for the filling starts, the decayed tooth material has to be taken out, and the area is thoroughly cleaned and then filled with the filling material.
Steps to getting a dental filling
The first step is to numb the area around the tooth to be filled. This is done using local anesthesia. Next, the decayed area is removed using a drill, air abrasion instrument or laser. After the area is free of all decay, the space is filled, and finished by polishing.
After receiving a filling, your tooth may become sensitive to pressure, air, sweet foods or cold temperatures. In most cases, sensitivity will only last for over one week to two weeks. Sometimes, the filling might be too high and could cause pain after the effect of the anesthesia wears off. If this happens, please reach out to us as soon as possible to adjust or reduce the height of the filling.
